sibling saturday [26]

I’m late on this, I know. It’s been a while since Sibling Saturday came on a Sunday! My apologies. :)

Enjoy this. I promise it’ll brighten up your Sunday. J’s online!

a little relaxation.

Just a few snapshots of the perfectly timed vacation that Al and I went on right before my new job started — I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the week before I re-entered the real world. As you can see, fun was had by all. Thanks to the generosity of Alex’s parents, we were there from Saturday to Friday, got to celebrate three family birthdays (lots of Augusts!), and had loads of fun. Check us out. :)

Did the last one scare you? Hahahahaha, I couldn’t resist. Nothin’ like Roxie’s pearly whites to start the weekend off right. :) Happy Friday!

9 to 5!

Actually, it’s 8:30 to 5, to be exact — with an hour-long lunch break worked in whenever I see fit! Yep, it’s true. I’m a workin’ girl.

And here’s the good news: so far, so good! This is actually my first ever full-time job, since I spent the last year slaving over cold beer and hot wings when I wasn’t behind my big Mac screen at my day job. And so here I am, being a reeeeeeaaaaaal liiiiiiiiiiive grown-up. And I’m doing okay!

The job is wonderful so far. It’s a great mix of different types of tasks and projects, and my co-workers are amazing. The two women I work under are charismatic, understanding, and honest, and I think (after my long two days of work there) that it’s really the perfect fit for me. I have my own office, which is small and quirky and needs lots of TLC before it’ll be a space that’s joyous enough to be my home for 40 hours every week. I can walk there — and while the weather is nice, I’m walking home for my lunch break, too! It’s totally refreshing and a nice distraction, and who doesn’t need a little exercise, right?

Anyway, this post probably seems a little crazy, but that’s about how I feel right now. It’s funny how two days of a new schedule can be so exhausting! I’m so ready to see where this job takes me — you know, as far as life is concerned. But as far as tonight is concerned, I’m already ready for bed.

Sweet dreams. :)

I am obsessed with this picture. There’s something surreal and vintage about it. It helps that it was taken on J’s recent road trip to Maine with his friends — how cool is that? Check him out online.

before we go…

Just a snapshot of some deeeeeelicious homemade salsa Alex and I enjoyed earlier this week — in case you can’t tell, that’s a big bowl. I made it for us to enjoy throughout the week. And, well, we ate it all in one night. Oops.

Ingredients include tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, salt, pepper, lime juice, and our very own home-grown serrano peppers, jalapeno peppers, and cilantro. Yum! Alex was a big fan!

In other exciting news, I am back to worky work (YESSSSS!) the week we return from our relaxing endeavors that begin tomorrow. The puppies aren’t as excited as I am about the fact that I’ll no longer be lounging around with them during every waking hour of the day.

They won’t be as depressed once they realize that this lifestyle change means they get to keep eating. :)

Happy Friday!

visiting.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of taking a trip down 64 West to the lovely place where I spent the past five years of my life. I went first to my home base, of course — McGrady’s, duh. :) It was fantastic to see everyone, especially since I had good job news to tell them!

Then, I spent the evening with R. It was fabulous to see her, as always, and she even made me a delicious dinner (homemade mashed potatoes and grilled turkey & swiss, in case you’re wondering). She also used her newly brilliant knitting skills to teach me how to purl, which totally blew my mind. I mean, you’d be amazed the things you can do with two stitches. I want to try these! I also have this book:

compliments of Maama — it’s so cool. It has tons of knitting patterns in it, most of which I can’t really do yet because I don’t know how to slip stitches or yarn over or anything crazy like that, but some of them I could do! I also don’t know what it means to knit “wrong side.” Any ideas?

Today has been nice and relaxing…just the way I want the days leading up the new job to be. I walked the doggies, knitted, watched a little online television, and made some mint tea. Not bad, huh? I also figured out which books I’m taking to the OBX with me next week, which is super duper exciting. Nerdy? Yes. But to me, exciting. :)

More knitting pictures to come. Promise. Happy hump day!
